Following Barcelona’s hard-fought 1-0 win over Mallorca, Eric Garcia shared his thoughts with the media, reflecting on both his performance and the team’s form.

The Spanish defender was given a rare opportunity to start at right-back in place of Jules Koundé and made the most of it by assisting Dani Olmo’s winning goal.

Garcia, who has mostly played as a centre-back and as a pivot, explained that he is no stranger to the right-back position.

“I already played there during my loan at Girona, so I felt comfortable. I’m here to help the team and ready to play wherever the coach needs me,” he said, showing his willingness to adapt to Hansi Flick’s tactical needs.

Despite only managing one goal, Barcelona were dominant throughout the match, registering more than 40 attempts.

“The scoreline does not reflect the number of chances we created, but the most important thing is we won and kept a clean sheet,” Garcia said.

“We are happy with the result, and I’m personally glad to contribute with the assist.”

With the Copa del Rey final against Real Madrid fast approaching, Garcia believes the team are hitting form at the right time.

“We are in a good moment. Maybe our recent results were more balanced compared to how we played, but a final against Real Madrid is always different and special,” he explained.

The defender also spoke about Ansu Fati, who was handed a starting role against Mallorca. As a close friend of Ansu’s, Garcia was pleased with what he saw.

“I thought Ansu played really well today. With Lewandowski injured, it’s vital to have different attacking options, and Ansu gives us that,” he said.

Whether Flick continues to place trust in Ansu remains to be seen, but Garcia’s support for his teammate does underline the unity in the squad.
