Eric Ramsay must find a way to get Aune Heggebo back to goalscoring ways to save his West Brom job
West Brom find themselves in a tricky, and for them, unusual predicament.
The Baggies are the quintessential top-half Championship team, having not finished in the bottom half of the second tier in over 25 years - a hugely impressive statistic that reflects just how well run they have been both on and off the field for so long.
However, that looks almost destined to change this campaign, with West Brom hovering just above the relegation zone as things stand, with the very real possibility that they could go down if their form does not change sooner rather than later.
After a positive start to the season under former Tottenham Hotspur and Hull City midfielder Ryan Mason, the Englishman was dismissed after a poor run of form, especially on the road, and replaced by Welsh boss Eric Ramsay.
Ramsay was poached from his role at MLS side Minnesota United, though following his arrival, the positive bounce the Baggies would have been hoping for has not arrived, and is looking increasingly unlikely to do so.
With zero wins in his first seven competitive games, time is very quickly running out for Ramsay to turn things around, and he must find a way to get the best out of one key player if he is to save his role.

Joining from Norwegian side SK Brann for a fee of around £4.7 million in the summer, Aune Heggebo got off to a solid start to life in the Midlands with West Brom.
The 24-year-old scored eight and assisted three in his first 21 league games for the club, which, for a side struggling in the lower echelons of the table and his first season in the English second tier, is more than respectable.
However, he has failed to net in any of his following 12 competitive games since and none since Ramsay entered through the doors at The Hawthorns, creating a worrying trend.
With Karlan Grant injured for the rest of the season, and with each of Isaac Price, Josh Maja, and Daryl Dike also suffering similar issues in front of goal, it won’t be long before Ramsay’s fate is decided for him if nothing changes.
Each of Heggebo, Price, Maja, and Dike has all proven that they know where the back of the net is on a consistent basis in the Championship, though with the Norwegian likely remaining as Ramsay’s first-choice striker, the burden of scoring the goals to keep West Brom up falls on him.
Ramsay must simply find a way to get Heggebo on the end of more chances and rediscover his goalscoring touch as soon as possible, otherwise the Welshman’s tenure at The Hawthorns will almost come to a disappointing and disastrous end.

Having joined the club midway through January, Ramsay wasn’t exactly dealt an easy hand.
He found a team already low on confidence and in desperate need of fresh blood across the pitch, overseeing the arrivals of Max O’Leary in goal, whilst Daniel Imray, Jamaldeen Jimoh-Aloba, and Hindolo Mustapha all joined the club on loan deals.
O’Leary was thrust straight between the sticks following his arrival from Bristol City, whilst none of the aforementioned three has yet to make an impact.
Given West Brom’s current predicament, Ramsay isn’t exactly in a position where he can make mass changes and lean into the ‘trust the process’ mantra; instead, he needs results right now.
The Baggies face the very real possibility of playing their football in League One next season if results don’t improve fast, and if the West Brom board don’t feel as though Ramsay is the man to get them the points they desperately need, it’s only a matter of time before another change in the dugout is made.
Unlocking Heggebo could very well save Ramsay’s job, which is certainly easier said than done. Though if he wants to avoid facing the sack, he must simply find a way of doing just that.
