Éric Roy tribute ahead of Brest vs PSG ‘to include’ wreath, tifo and U2 walkout | OneFootball

Stade Brestois have unveiled the programme to honour former head coach Éric Roy before Sunday’s Ligue 1 match against PSG at 20:45 at Stade Francis-Le Blé. Roy died aged 58 on 17 June following pancreatic cancer.

Le Télégramme reports that the tribute will begin shortly after 19:00 when the gates open. At 19:45 a wreath will be laid by president Denis Le Saint, general manager Pascal Robert and Loetitia, Roy’s widow, at the mural to the ‘King’.

Shortly after 20:00, players will warm up in “King Eric” T-shirts designed by Ultras Brestois 1990. At 20:30 PSG will present a tribute shirt, a video will follow, then a large tifo will be unveiled as the teams emerge.

The teams will walk out to U2’s Magnificent, a first for the stadium. Loetitia Roy told the club’s media it was his favourite and that he long viewed it as an ideal walkout for its energy and lyrics.

Victoria-Rose, his daughter, and Loetitia will address the crowd before a minute of applause. Both sides will wear black armbands, while Brest’s shirts will feature a crown on the front and the name King on the back.

A charity raffle will support Mon Cartable Connecté, which helps hospitalised children follow lessons live, with match-worn shirts and items from Roy’s Brest spell among the prizes. The frontage of the Arkéa stand will also be reworked.
