Monaco are closing in on Cruz Azul midfielder Erik Lira, with optimism high as the club wait to ratify Folarin Balogun’s sale.

According to L'Équipe, all parties are aligned on Lira’s arrival. Balogun, the only one of Monaco’s four non-EU players considered likely to depart, is awaiting administrative clearance to complete a move to Everton.

Once that is processed, Monaco can proceed to finalise the transfer of Lira, 26.

The Mexican remains in his home country and could sign his Monaco contract remotely.

Monaco and Cruz Azul have agreed the framework of a deal, eight million euros plus three million in bonuses and a sell-on clause.
