Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has confirmed that Mason Mount picked up a knock during the 3-0 Premier League loss to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

The Red Devils suffered a damaging defeat to Spurs at home last weekend. Mount replaced Kobbie Mainoo before the break, but he was substituted in the second half.

It was initially revealed that the midfielder was taken off with a head injury, but the manager has now confirmed he also picked up a knock during the game.

Mount has had a tough start to his United career. He was hampered by multiple injuries last season and registered only 756 minutes across 20 appearances in all competitions.

The 25-year-old managed to emerge from pre-season without any setbacks, but he picked up a fresh calf issue after just two games this term.

Ten Hag has now revealed that Mount was left out of the squad with a knock in addition to his head injury. Hopefully, he will recover in time for the Aston Villa game on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Luke Shaw is recovering from a muscular issue. Ten Hag may handle him with extra caution, and he could be eased back into the starting XI.

United will be aiming to end a three-match winless run against Porto in the Europa League tomorrow.

It could be crucial for Ten Hag’s future. The manager needs to significantly improve the team’s form over the next two games, or he could be sacked during the international break.
