Erik ten Hag is plotting "revenge" as Wolves manager after being offered a return to the Premier League.

Wolves are searching for a new head coach following the sacking of Vitor Pereira. Talks were progressing with Gary O'Neil, only for the manager to rule himself out of a sensational return to Molineux.

Reports in Netherlands claim that former Manchester United manager Ten Hag is a target following the collapse of talks with O'Neil, and the Dutchman is open to the role.

It has left the former Ajax manager's reputation in tatters following two years at Old Trafford, which produced turgid football but also two domestic cup wins.

Dutch outlet AD report that Wolves have been in touch with Ten Hag over their managerial vacancy, with the coach open to the opportunity but aware of what's at stake.

AD report that the expectation is now that Ten Hag will become Wolves manager.

"Erik ten Hag is ... expected to replace the sacked Vitor Pereira," AD report.

They add: "The English club contacted the Dutchman's management on Monday. [Ten Hag] is still considering his immediate future and has more options.

"After his lightning dismissal at Leverkusen, the coach is finally looking for revenge, but the risk of failure at Wolves is apparently high [as] the club has only earned two points in the Premier League."
