Erik ten Hag wants a lot more from Garnacho

On Sunday fans watched in disbelief as Alejandro Garnacho scored an outrageous overhead kick to remind us all of his precocious talent.

There was a swagger and arrogance about that attempt that youngsters his age wouldn’t dare display. But Garnacho is no ordinary talent. His remarkable rise has not gone unnoticed and United fans will hope for a lot more to come from the young Argentinian.

United manager Erik ten Hag however has tempered down the hype a little by talking about how much he has to work to reach the levels of Rooney and Ronaldo (when asked by Journos about the comparisons to the United legends scoring mesmerising overhead goals themselves).

“If you want to be a player like Rooney, Ronaldo, you have to score 20, 25 goals in the Premier League. It’s not easy, you have to work very hard. There is still a lot to do, but Garnacho has potential.” United faithful would be happy to hear this from their manager who is set to keep Garnacho’s feet on the ground and push him to put in the hard yards. The way things have gone on in Old Trafford over the past decade, the odds of another young talent going astray are high so the United fans will need to temper their expectations.

Garnacho so far has two goals to his name this season and a target of 10 would be a realistic goal come May. Senior players in the squad will keep a close check on the youngster to ensure he doesn’t go astray.
