Erika praises Corinthians’ international run after Copa das Campeãs

After returning to Brazil following the FIFA Women's Club Championship, the Brabas finished as runners-up after being defeated by Arsenal 3-2 in extra time, in the final held last Sunday (01) at Emirates Stadium, England.

Corinthians' goals were scored by Gabi Zanotti, still in regular time, and by Vic Albuquerque, from the penalty spot in extra time. In the extra period, the English team scored again and secured the title.

After returning to Brazil, in an interview with Fut das Minas, Erika highlighted the value of the experience gained in international competitions and emphasized the importance of facing opponents from different continents for the maturity of the Corinthians squad.

“I think what I'm bringing is the experience of playing in international tournaments, the desire, that passion we can't lose, I still have all of that, the energy, because we have no doubt about our work. Maybe we have uncertainty about what is unfamiliar, and the unfamiliar for us is playing against European teams, against Asian, African teams, anyway, because we usually only play against South American teams. And then we wonder: ‘can we do it, can we not?’, but it's not because of our work, maybe it's because of this unfamiliar ground we haven't yet crossed. And after some time, right, playing against Kansas, against Gotham, anyway, it keeps coming… I think we can understand the magnitude of what it means to wear this shirt, what it means to be Corinthians and the ability we have to overturn any score, to come from ahead or behind, and to make a beautiful story for the Fiel,” said Erika.

“We leave with a feeling of pride for everything we've done. It was a short time working together, but we managed to give our all. Now it's about understanding what this World Cup meant after the adrenaline passes,” she added.

Participation in the Women's Club Championship marked Corinthians' debut in the FIFA-organized competition and reinforced the club's leading role on the international women's football stage. Even as runners-up, the team finishes the tournament with a competitive performance against European teams.

The squad now turns its attention to the continuation of the season. Next Saturday (07), at 4:00 pm (Brasília time), Corinthians faces Palmeiras in the Women's Supercup at Arena Barueri, competing for the first trophy of the season.
