Erling Haaland camp responds to Real Madrid signing claims – “All very entertaining”

In the last few hours, Real Madrid presidential candidate Enrique Riquelme claimed that he has closed the signing of Erling Haaland from Manchester City. It’s alleged that the Norwegian striker has a clause in his contract that allows a Bernabeu move to be done, which is exactly how Florentino Perez’s rival intends to close one of the biggest transfers in football history.

Haaland has long been a target for Real Madrid. They failed to sign him prior to his move to Man City, and since then, they have been following his progress in Manchester with a view to striking – which is exactly what Riquelme intends to do if he ousts Perez in this Sunday’s vote.

Riquelme alleged that he has already agreed personal terms with Haaland’s camp, which would allow the aforementioned clause to be triggered upon him taking office. However, the Man City superstar’s camp has moved to deny such claims in comments made to Fabrizio Romano.

“(Riquelme’s remarks are) very entertaining but not true. We wish all the best for both candidates in the Real Madrid elections.”

Who will the Real Madrid members believe?

There is no doubt that the prospect of signing Haaland would wet the appetite of numerous Real Madrid members that go into Sunday’s vote with an open mind. Riquelme’s claims may sway many, although the fact that a denial from the 25-year-old’s camp has come so swiftly will also play a part, and likely swing things back towards Perez, who has already closed the signings of Ibrahima Konate and Denzel Dumfries.

It remains to be seen whether Riquelme’s claims are true, but he may never get the chance to push for Haaland if he is not elected as president this weekend. Perez is the overwhelming favourite to remain at the helm, although the events of the last few hours could change things.
