Massive rioting broke out around the Allianz Arena ahead of the Bundesliga top match between FC Bayern and VfB Stuttgart. The situation escalated around 90 minutes before kick-off when fans from both camps clashed
Videos circulating on social networks show groups of Stuttgart supporters running towards Bayern fans. According to reports, it was mainly masked VfB ultras who sought a confrontation and attacked the meeting point of the Munich fans at the Südkurvenplatz
As reported by BILD, a large group of Stuttgart supporters moved from the subway towards the stadium and deliberately attacked Bayern ultras. The Munich fans reacted immediately – several hundred fans confronted the attackers, some of them also wearing masks
Within a very short time, a confusing and violent situation developed with violent riots
The police arrived with a large number of officers to bring the situation under control. Several hundred officers were on site and used batons and pepper spray against those involved
Some of the fans were surrounded in order to prevent further escalation. According to initial information, several police officers were slightly injured during the clashes
The incidents once again shed a critical light on the security situation surrounding FC Bayern matches. Just a few days ago, there were discussions after the Champions League match against Real Madrid after a photographer was injured during the pitch storming
The current riots show how quickly the situation can get out of control at emotionally charged matches
Despite the massive incidents, the match was kicked off on schedule. For FC Bayern, the southern clash is not only about prestige, but also about potentially securing the championship ahead of time
However, the events outside the stadium are likely to have repercussions, and those responsible will have to deal intensively with the incidents – not least in order to prevent similar scenes in the future.
