Nottingham Forest head coach Nuno Espirito Santo says his side should have performed better after a late second half collapse against West Ham.
With the score goalless heading into the final ten minutes of the match, Forest went into self-destruction mode as goals from Jarrod Bowen, Lucas Paqueta and Callum Wilson saw the Hammers claim their first win of the season in emphatic fashion.
Forest, who were unbeaten in the Premier League after picking up a win and draw apiece in their opening two matches, were unable to take their chances throughout the game and Espirito Santo lamented his side’s ability to make the most of their dominance.
“We were in control and dominant and should have done some things better,” Espirito Santo said. “The second half was bad.
“We got unbalanced and the urgency to chase the result and not be careful. Summerville created some problems. Since the beginning of the game, we didn’t show the urgency this game required. We should have done much more.
“There are a couple of moments where we had good situations in the box but not as much as required in a home game.
“We go home, we watch the game and try to make sure we don’t perform this way again.”
With noise surrounding the club regarding the relationship between Espirito Santo and owner Evangelos Marinakis, the 51-year-old says now is the time to talk and address things for the sake of the team.
“We have to talk and address things. This result doesn’t help things but we have to address what the club needs. My job now is to help the team. We have a challenge and we must enjoy and play better football. It’s my job. It’s a sad day, we are upset but we have a second chance to make it right.”
