Manchester United would be willing to keep Casemiro at the club beyond his contract expiry, provided he accepts a reduction in his salary.

As things stand, the veteran will pull the curtains on his Red Devils tenure after four years when his deal expires in June 2026 – unless new terms are signed before then.

The current state of play also allows Casemiro to begin negotiations with foreign suitors over a potential summer move from January.

United forked out a whopping £70 million to sign the midfielder from Real Madrid back in July 2022, with the fee heavily criticised at the time due to him being 30 years old when making the switch to England.

From the club’s point of view, they were welcoming one of the most experienced and highly-regarded players in his position across world football, so acquiring him to steady the ship posed as a more suitable option than signing a younger prospect.

Casemiro has since endured fluctuating form at the heart of United’s 11.

Whilst he initially fell out of favour upon Ruben Amorim’s appointment last November, the five-time Champions League winner is now essentially a mainstay in the side; he’s started five of United’s seven Premier League matches played this term, being suspended for one due to his red card against Chelsea.

United’s current stance on Casemiro

Amorim utilising the Brazilian’s talents is likely what’s led to new speculation over his future; last year, it was almost nailed on that he would leave as soon as his contract expired.

Yet, ESPN now claims that INEOS have ‘not ruled out’ Casemiro staying beyond next June, although he will have to agree to a significant pay cut. He is currently the team’s highest earner following the departures of David de Gea and Raphael Varane.

United do have the option of activating his one-year clause, but doing so means he would continue to be paid his current wages for an additional 12 months.
