Estádio da Luz to host Benfica v Sporting women’s derby on the first of May

Benfica have confirmed that the women’s derby against Sporting will be played at Estádio da Luz at 19:00 on Friday the first of May 2026, the 17th round of the Liga BPI. The club said in a statement that the venue was selected for the occasion.
It will be the seventh meeting between the sides at the Luz, the first was staged on 19 October 2019. On the eighth of May 2022, Benfica’s home fixture against Sporting culminated in securing back to back national titles.
In 2023 the stadium hosted a Taça de Portugal quarter final on 21 January, then the 17th league round on 26 March. Last season it staged the 15th league round on the first of February 2025, followed by the cup quarter final on 22 March 2025.
This season the Luz has already hosted three Champions League group stage ties for Ivan Baptista’s side, against Arsenal on 16 October, Twente on 12 November and Paris Saint-Germain on 17 December 2025.
Benfica are close to clinching a sixth straight national crown. It could be secured on Saturday the 25th of April against Braga, after celebrations were postponed against Torreense. If they beat Braga, the Sporting derby would become a title celebration.
