Estéban Lepaul, formed at OL and now a Rennes striker, has received his first France call-up under new France head coach Zinédine Zidane and is set to return to Lyon as an opponent at Groupama Stadium on Saturday.
According to Le Progres, the 23-year-old came through Lyon’s academy, featured for the U19s in the Coupe Gambardella and Youth League, and in National 2, but never made a senior appearance, with his last outings for the reserves in 2020.
He has previously said Lyon’s academy was unmatched at the time and that he would not be the player he is without those years, recalling an outstanding generation.
Last season’s Ligue 1 top scorer now enjoys international recognition and will relish the occasion against his former club.
If he happens to forget to score on Saturday, few in Lyon are likely to hold it against him.
