Burnley defender Maxime Estève had an evening to forget at the Etihad Stadium, becoming only the sixth player in Premier League history to score two own goals in the same match.
His mishaps helped Manchester City stroll to a 5-1 win over Scott Parker’s side.
The 23-year-old set the tone early, breaking the deadlock in the eighth minute when a miskicked clearance flew into his own net, moments after Martin Dubravka had denied Jérémy Doku.
If that wasn’t bad enough, he struck again after the interval: Savinho fired a low cross across the six-yard box, and under pressure from Oscar Bobb, Estève could only turn the ball past his keeper once more.
Estève now joins a very small - and very unlucky - group of players to have put through their own net twice in a single Premier League game. The list reads:
Jamie Carragher (Liverpool) - vs Manchester United, 1999.
Michael Proctor (Sunderland) - vs Charlton, 2003.
Jon Walters (Stoke) - vs Chelsea, 2013.
Wout Faes (Leicester) - vs Liverpool, 2022.
Craig Dawson (Wolves) - vs Everton, 2024.
Maxime Estève (Burnley) – vs Manchester City, 2025.
