Leeds captain Ethan Ampadu will miss Sunday’s Premier League home match against Manchester United after triggering a one-game ban with his fifth booking at Liverpool. The player said in his matchday programme notes he was devastated to miss out and would support the team from the stands.
Ampadu had been in outstanding form during an impressive unbeaten run. His caution, for handball in the New Year’s Day draw at Anfield, means he must sit out the rivalry fixture.
He felt the yellow card was harsh, but accepts he will be unavailable this weekend.
Reflecting on the goalless draw, he praised Leeds’ character at Anfield and predicted not many sides will leave there with a clean sheet between now and the end of the season.
Ampadu stressed what the match means to the club and vowed the squad would give everything to claim three points in what he expects to be a superb atmosphere.
