Manchester United have reportedly reached a major transfer decision on the future of talented forward Ethan Ennis.
Ennis has enjoyed an impressive rise in United’s youth ranks since joining the club from bitter rivals Liverpool in 2021.
A goalscoring winger by trade, Ennis was part of the United team that won the FA Youth Cup in his first season at the club. He featured alongside the likes of Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho.
Last summer, he sealed a season-long loan switch to Fleetwood Town. This marked the second loan move of his career.
After an outstanding first half of the 2024/25 campaign, Ennis secured a January move to Doncaster Rovers and helped the club win promotion from League Two.
He has caught the eye at Fleetwood despite primarily playing as a wing-back. The 21-year-old has made 38 League Two appearances so far this term, contributing three goals and seven assists.
According to the Manchester Evening News, United have triggered their option to extend Ennis’ stay at Old Trafford by at least one more year.
Steven Railston of the Manchester Evening News exclusively reveals, “Manchester United have activated their option to extend Ethan Ennis’ contract by 12 months. Ennis was out of contract at the end of the season, but he has enjoyed a hugely successful loan with Fleetwood Town.”
It’s said that United have been left “thoroughly impressed” by Ennis’ performances at Fleetwood.
Staff at the Cod Army are also admirers of Ennis and his work ethic, which made his transition at Highbury Stadium very easy.
“The Manchester Evening News understands new contract discussions will take place with Ennis this summer, and the youngster will have options on the table, with Championship clubs interested.”
That United are determined to keep Ennis shows just how highly he is rated within the club and the remarkable heights he can reach.
