Ethan Mbappé was sent off on 56 minutes for elbowing Betis defender Natan, with Lille trailing 2-3 in their Champions League opener.

Lille had led 2-1 at half-time after a controlled first period. L'Équipe reports that the restart quickly unravelled.

Marc Bartra headed his second to level in the 49th minute, before Betis went in front through Troy Parrott in the 53rd minute.

Mbappé, who had set up Ayase Ueda in the 12th minute, caught Natan with an elbow. After a VAR review, referee Georgi Kabakov cautioned the Betis defender for provocation and dismissed the Frenchman.

Lille still had time to chase an equaliser, but the red card left them a man down and complicated the task.
