Eugen Polanski reportedly resigns as Gladbach coach

It looks like Borussia Mönchengladbach will have to find a new head coach just three games into the 2026/27 Bundesliga season.

According to Rheinische Post, Eugen Polanski has decided to step down following Saturday’s 5-0 defeat to SC Freiburg – a result that has left Die Fohlen rooted to the bottom of the table without a point and with a goal difference of 3-12.

The local outlet reports that Polanski informed the squad and sporting director Rouven Schröder of his decision on Sunday.

Assistant coach Jan-Moritz Lichte is expected to take charge on an interim basis while the club searches for a permanent successor.

Among the reported candidates are Ole Werner (most recently at RB Leipzig), Horst Steffen (most recently at Werder Bremen) and Alexander Blessin (most recently at St. Pauli).
