Chloe Kelly was the hero, smashing home the winning penalty after Hannah Hampton had saved two of Spain’s spot-kicks.

Here, Standard Sport rates the England players’ performances at Euro 2025

Goalkeepers

Hannah Hampton 9

Made England’s No1 on the eve of the tournament and rose to the occasion. Exceptional in two penalty shootouts, while her distribution was brilliant.

Defenders

Alex Greenwood 7

Played the opening game at centre-back, but moved to left-back for the rest of the tournament. England’s left flank struggled at times before the final.

Esme Morgan 7

Parachuted into the team for the semi-finals and did well. Unlucky to lose her place for the final. Solid whenever brought on off the bench.

Jess Carter 8

Had a difficult night against Sweden and was dropped for the semi-final. Restored to the team for the final and she was a rock. Incredible character.

Leah Williamson 8

Played like she had a point to prove after missing the World Cup two years ago due to injury. Saved her best performance for the final.

Lucy Bronze 8

Somehow played the whole tournament with a fractured tibia. Summed up the spirit of the whole team and was an utter warrior throughout.

Niamh Charles 7

Came off the bench in five of the six games. Typically steady and also slotted her penalty in the final.

Lotte Wubben-Moy N/A

Maya Le Tissier N/a

Midfielders

Ella Toone 7

Did not start the first game, but came into the team after it and never lost her place. Linked up well with Russo.

Georgia Stanway 8

Managed to get herself fit in time for the tournament and performed well. Full of energy and scored twice in the group stage.

Grace Clinton 6

Felt like a contender to break into the team before the tournament started, but had to settle for a bench role. Solid.

Jess Park 6

Did not get much action, bar coming off the bench against Wales for the second half. Still only 23 and has more to offer.

Keira Walsh 7

Not as dominant as she was three years ago, with teams now targeting here, but still had a decent tournament. Vital to how England play.

Forwards

Alessia Russo 8

Excelled in the group stage and had a hat-trick of assists against the Netherlands. Form dipped in the quarter-finals and semi-final, but scored in the final.

Aggie Beever-Jones 6

Off the mark at a major tournament after finding the net during the thumping win over Wales. Lively off the bench when called upon.

Beth Mead 7

Was England’s star when they won the Euros three years ago, but had to settle for an impact role this time. Offered valuable experience off the bench.

Chloe Kelly 9

England’s game-changer and a contender for player of the tournament. Had a goal or assist in every knock game and smashed home the winning penalty in the final.

Lauren James 7

Lit up the group stage, but was unable to kick on in the knockout stages. Fitness an issue and seemed to hold her back.

Lauren Hemp 7

Tireless for England out wide and possibly covered more ground than any other player. Will be disappointed to have only scored once, though.

Michelle Agyemang 9

What can you say? Enjoyed a fairytale tournament by scoring in the quarter-finals and semi-final. Made a massive impact off the bench, despite being just 19.
