Following an eventful Thursday, WhoScored revealed their Team of the Week for the first leg of the Europa League Round of 16, and it includes Lazio’s Alessio Romagnoli.
The Biancocelesti prevailed over their hosts Viktoria Plzen in dramatic fashion after being reduced to nine men. Nicolo Rovella and Samuel Gigot received their marching orders, but Gustav Isaksen pulled off a last-minute strike to give the Italians a vital advantage heading into the second leg.
But despite his late heroics, the Dane didn’t make the cut in the best lineup of the round, but it was his teammate Romagnoli who had the honor of representing Lazio. The 30-year-old defender had a solid display at the back, but also proved decisive on the other end of the field, opening the scoring for the Aquile with a close-range header.
The former Milan joins a lineup that includes three Rangers stars. The Glasgow-based giants beat Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce by three goals to one in Istanbul, so they now have set one foot in the quarter-finals. Nicolas Raskin, Vaclav Cerny and former Cremonese striker Cyriel Dessers all got the nod.
Nevertheless, it was Bodo/Glimt who utterly dominated the selections with six players on the list. The Norwegians beat Olympiakos by three goals to nil at home to place themselves in prime position to progress for the next round. Finally, former Lazio tranfer target Rayan Cherki is included after helping Lyon over FCSB away from home, contributing with two assists.
Europa League Team of the Week (3-5-2): Haikin (Bodo/Glimt); Bojortuft (Bodo/Glimt), Romagnoli (Lazio), Gundersen (Bodo/Glimt); Cherki (Lyon), Berg (Bodo/Glimt), Raskin (Rangers), Cerny (Rangers), Bjorkan (Bodo/Glimt); Dessers (Rangers), Hogh (Bodo/Glimt).
