Botafogo’s financial squeeze could prompt player sales, and standout midfielder Danilo is drawing interest from Flamengo and five European clubs.
ESPN reports that Bayer Leverkusen, Napoli, Zenit, Newcastle and Atlético de Madrid are among the suitors, and that Botafogo are seeking 30 to 40 million euros, around R$ 177 to 236 million.
Flamengo monitored their rivals’ squad in January 2026, considered the player, but did not table an official bid.
Danilo is Botafogo’s top scorer this season, with seven goals and two assists in 16 appearances.
He also has a strong chance of featuring at the World Cup, which could serve as a shop window.
While the window remains shut, Flamengo face Independiente Medellín at 21:30 Brasília time on Thursday 7, at the Estádio Atanasio Girardot, in the fourth round of Libertadores Group A.
