European giant emerge as suitor for Girona manager Michel Sanchez

Girona manager Michel Sanchez could well have a variety of options this summer, with his contract up this summer. One of Europe’s most storied clubs has now emerged as a potential suitor.

Out of contract this summer, Michel has commented that he will consider contract talks with Girona towards the end of the season, once the Blanc-i-Vermells have secured their place in La Liga next year. Girona are on course to do so; currently they sit six points clear of the drop zone in 13th, but are also only four points off a potential European spot.

Ajax emerge as suitor for Michel this summer

According to Matteo Moretto on RadioMarca, Girona manager Michel Sanchez will have other options this summer. Ajax have recently appointed Jordi Cruyff as their sporting director, and it is expected that manager Fred Grim will move on this summer. Cruyff is keen to bring in Michel, and has sounded out his camp over a potential move. He would be more than familiar with Michel’s work, having worked as Barcelona’s sporting director during the season when Girona finished third in La Liga, beating the Blaugrana twice in the process and scoring eight times over their two meetings.

Michel has been sounded out for other jobs too

With Marcelino Garcia Toral not certain to renew his contract with Villarreal, the Yellow Submarine have also sounded out Michel as a potential option for next season. Michel has also been linked to the Manchester City job in the past, and with Pep Guardiola’s continuity also in doubt, has admitted that he feels prepared to manage at any level.

“I do see myself as ready, I see myself as ready to coach any team. I don’t know if they see it that way. Obviously, it’s not the same, but I have the ability to adapt and I want to experience it,”

Reading between the lines, it seems more possible than ever that Michel moves on from Girona, after five enormously successful years at Montilivi.
