Man Utd Forward Linked With Serie A Switch

The 24-year-old has been at Old Trafford for just over a year after joining from Bologna for €42.5 million. His opportunities under new manager Ruben Amorim have been limited, with every appearance this season coming from the bench.

Como’s Ambition

Cesc Fabregas, head coach of Como, has identified the Dutch international as a player who fits the exact profile required to strengthen their squad. The ambition of the newly-promoted side has impressed many observers in Italy, and Zirkzee could represent a marquee arrival. Juventus also remain in the background, having previously shown intent during the summer.

United’s Calculations

United face a decision on whether to persist with a player yet to secure a starting role, or to allow him the chance to relaunch his career abroad. That calculation will depend on their own attacking options in the second half of the season.

Our View – EPL Index Analysis

Zirkzee was signed as part of a long-term rebuild, a player who could develop into a central figure for years to come. Instead, just 14 months later, the discussion is about his potential exit. Fans will rightly ask why such an investment has been unable to yield more opportunities.

The Amorim era is still in its infancy, but the decision to leave Zirkzee on the fringes is a stark one. United’s attack has looked inconsistent, lacking rhythm and ruthlessness, and yet a forward with technical quality and proven ability in Serie A has not been trusted with starts. Supporters may feel this represents a disconnect between recruitment and managerial strategy.

The potential move to Como is intriguing. For a club backed by ambition and led by Cesc Fabregas, Zirkzee could thrive in an environment where he is central to the project. Juventus would offer a more traditional powerhouse, yet competition there may mirror his struggles in Manchester.

United fans will want clarity. If Zirkzee departs, either on loan or permanently, the club must show a clear plan for replacing his profile. Otherwise, it risks being another case of wasted potential, and another example of muddled planning that has plagued the post-Ferguson years.
