Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes is attracting transfer interest as Italian champions Napoli have the Brazilian midfielder high on their list for the summer window.

The Old Gold are sitting at the bottom of the Premier League and are top favourites to go down to the Championship when the season ends.

Some of their first-team players jumped ship in the recent winter transfer window, as the likes of Jorgen Strand Larsen and Emmanuel Agbadou left the club.

Rob Edwards’ men, however, have been in good form recently, as they have beaten Aston Villa and Liverpool in their last two games in the league.

Wolves are currently 12 points from safety in the Premier League table and some of their star players are still attracting transfer interest amid the expectation they will become available.

Their star midfielder Gomes attracted fellow Premier League club Crystal Palace, who eyed the 25-year-old Brazilian as a potential option.

The Eagles did not make a move for Gomes and a Serie A are showing concrete interest in the Brazil international.

According to Italian daily Il Mattino (via Tutto Mercato Web), Napoli see Gomes as a top option for the summer window.

It has been suggested that Napoli were keen on the 25-year-old in the winter window as well; they may need to pay a hefty transfer fee to get their hands on him.

The Italian giants are not the only interested club in the Brazilian, who has interest from La Liga outfit Atletico Madrid.

Napoli have an ageing squad at their disposal, and the club’s sporting director, Giovanni Manna, is looking to recruit players with a good few years left in the tank.

Gomes only turned 25 last month and his current deal at Molineux runs until the summer of 2030, with an option to extend it for another year.

However, in the event of a relegation, it will be hard for the Old Gold hierarchy to keep hold of their star midfielder next season.
