Stephen Eustáquio’s World Cup heroics have sharpened interest, yet Porto are relaxed about his future and any market talks will wait. According to O Jogo, the 29-year-old’s contract runs to the end of next season and the hierarchy expects no issues.

A day after Diogo Costa starred for Portugal against Colombia, Eustáquio thumped in from the edge of the box to send Canada into the last 16, just as extra time against South Africa looked likely. Porto swiftly congratulated him, as did current and former team-mates.

He spent the second half of the season on loan at LAFC in MLS, seeking rhythm before the tournament. Despite an injury, he made 14 appearances, with one goal and one assist, and arrived as a group leader. Passing the armband to Alphonso Davies mid-game further fuelled the post-match media buzz.

Head coach Jesse Marsch said no one deserved the moment more and suggested Eustáquio’s parents would be proud. Team-mates Tani Oluwaseyi and Liam Millar hailed him as the team’s heartbeat and were thrilled he scored.

Interest from Europe and North America has intensified, but Eustáquio is keeping clear of transfer talk to savour a historic World Cup for co-hosts Canada. If he does not renew, he can commit to a free move in January, with all options open and Porto confident a solution will suit everyone.

He also matched a World Cup benchmark last achieved by Andrea Pirlo, creating five chances from set plays in a single game since 1966. His match shirt is drawing record bids on Match Worn Shirt, already above 6600 euros.
