Eva Olid pinpoints exactly what Man United Women must improve on ahead of new season | OneFootball

Manchester United Women lost their second consecutive pre-season game at the weekend against Liverpool.

The Red Devils are still adapting to Eva Olid’s methods and have drawn against Leicester City, while coming unstuck against Newcastle United and now Liverpool.

United have only brought in two players this summer: Andrea Medina and Janina Leitzig.

Supporters will be hoping Olid will see more players brought in before the deadline in just over a week.

Olid reaction

Speaking to the club’s website after the match, Olid praised aspects of her side’s performance.

She claimed, “I think we were so good at times. In the first 20 minutes, we totally dominated, we created chances and didn’t score.”

The Catalan coach bemoaned her team’s inability to stay consistent throughout the match, though. She asserted, “after [that], we had good moments, moments where we weren’t dominating. We had really good things but it’s how we can do that consistently [over] 90 minutes.”

How United can improve

She also claimed that the most important thing right now is the process and that her team see a pathway to improve before the start of the new campaign.

Olid explained, “for me, I know it’s a pre-season game and the result is not the most important [thing], we need to be sharper and take our chances. It’s something we have to work on training because we cannot finish a match in the league, we had a lot of chances and we lost the game – it’s the worst feeling ever. We are going to be so demanding with that. But in terms of performance, really good moments. Now it’s my job and the job of the staff that we can do that [over] 90 minutes.”

The head coach also insisted that United need to learn to grab the initiative when on top and be more consistent in front of goal.

She added, “when you have the momentum and you are dominating, you need to take the chances. We had chances one-on-one with the goalkeeper in front of the goal and you feel like you can go 3-1 [ahead] in the first half.”

United will take on Manchester City next Saturday in their final pre-season match before kicking off the league season against London City Lionesses on Friday 4th September.
