Despite Dayot Upamecano’s impending contract extension, another defender is apparently still on FC Bayern’s radar: Nico Schlotterbeck
According to BILD, a possible transfer of the central defender is by no means automatically off the table even after Upamecano’s stay
On the one hand, the sporting future of Minjae Kim continues to be the subject of intense internal discussion at Säbener Straße. The South Korean has recently lost his place in the hierarchy, and a sale in the summer is not ruled out. Should there be any movement here, Bayern could once again have a need for action in central defence
On the other hand, Munich are apparently thinking ahead strategically. According to BILD, FC Bayern are also considering a free transfer of Schlotterbeck in 2027 – in the event that the Dortmund player decides not to extend his contract early and enter the final year of his contract with Borussia Dortmund. This scenario is not unrealistic at present
Although there is said to have been a recent meeting between Schlotterbeck and the BVB management, the 26-year-old has so far deliberately left open the possibility of signing a new contract. He is therefore still playing for time
However, the hurdles for a short-term transfer would be high. Should Dortmund sell Schlotterbeck next summer, BVB would accept a transfer fee of no less than 50 million euros, according to BILD. In addition, the Westphalians would prefer to sell the centre-back abroad. Real Madrid are also said to be interested

The fact that Schlotterbeck is keeping his future open fits in with his recent statements. In an interview, the international made it clear that he is driven by one thing above all: titles. „I have the goal of winning a championship in Germany – we were close to that. The Champions League is very difficult to win – we were close to that too. I was also close in the DFB Cup. I’ve only won the U21 European Championship as a professional footballer. I want to hold something in my hand now.“
These words will be carefully noted in Munich. FC Bayern stands for guaranteed titles like hardly any other club in Germany. Even with Upamecano as a fixture in defence, one thing remains clear: Bayern are thinking long-term. And Nico Schlotterbeck remains a name that has not been crossed off the list.
