'Even if you score goals...': The brutal exchange that shook Real Madrid’s dressing room
A Spanish journalist revealed heated argument between two Real Madrid players during halftime of a La Liga match against Levante.
A new report has shed light on internal tension at Real Madrid during what has been difficult season for the club.
According to Spanish journalist Juanfe Sanz, a strong argument broke out in the dressing room at halftime of the January La Liga match against Levante at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.
Madrid went on to win the game 2-0 but the first half performance frustrated supporters who whistled several players following the team’s recent elimination from the Copa del Rey against Albacete.
Sanz reported that two important player were involved in tense exchange behind closed doors.
Their identities were not revealed but the argument reportedly reflected the pressure inside the squad at that stage of the campaign.
One player entered the dressing room and demanded more effort calling on teammates to show stronger fighting spirit. His speech was described as forceful and direct, similar to team talk aimed at motivating the group.
However another player responded sharply, reportedly saying:
“Even if you score goals, you are not playing better than the rest of the team”
The exchange quickly turned into verbal confrontation before teammates stepped in to calm the situation.
Real Madrid have faced several challenges this season. The departure of Xabi Alonso and the appointment of Alvaro Arbeloa marked a major change on the bench.
The team also suffered early exits in domestic competitions and had to play in Champions League play-off round.
A 3-2 defeat to Barcelona in the Copa del Rey final added further pressure.
Despite these setbacks, Madrid have shown signs of improvement. They secured 2-0 win over Valencia on Sunday in La Liga and currently sit second in the table, just one point behind Barcelona.
