Italian newspaper Il Corriere dello Sport suggests that Paulo Dybala would deserve Roma‘s No. 10 after snubbing a move to the Saudi Pro League: ‘Even Francesco Totti would put in a good word.’

Dybala surprisingly rejected a three-year contract worth €25m per season from Saudi side Al-Qadsiah so he will remain at Roma at least until the end of the campaign.

Roma fans were so delighted by the news that they even thanked the Argentinean at his home on Thursday night.

Il Corriere dello Sport and Gazzetta claim that Roma also had a role as the Giallorossi were unwilling to accept just €3m for the best player in their team.

Italian newspaper suggests Dybala deserves Roma’s No. 10 after snubbing Saudi move

Corriere dello Sport editor Ivan Zazzaroni analysed Dybala’s decision in a column published on today’s newspaper front page.

“It’s nice to realise that the ‘no’ to a phantom football that has taken quality away from Europe was said by a champion who has been considered without balls for years,” wrote Zazzaroni.

“I am sure that Dybala will receive the welcome he deserves from Roma fans the day after tomorrow. The sense of belonging has the highest value for the supporters.

“After this move, I am convinced that even Francesco Totti, the king of the sense of belonging, would put in a good word to give him the No.10.”

Totti spent his entire career at Roma, snubbing offers from several top clubs through the years, most notably one from Real Madrid in the summer of 2002.

Roma did not retire the No. 10 shirt, but no Giallorossi player has worn it since Totti retired in 2017.
