Everton ‘agree’ to sign in-demand Irish defender ahead of Premier League rivals | OneFootball

Everton are closing in on their latest signing of the summer transfer window.

The Toffees have been busy in the market despite financial turmoil which has seen them struggle to find a buy to takeover the club from current owner Farhad Moshiri.

Iliman Ndiaye completed a move worth up to €20 million (£16.9m) from Marseille, while Tim Iroegbunam joined from Aston Villa for a transfer fee of around £9m.

Attacking midfielder Jesper Lindstrom has also arrived at Goodison Park on loan from Napoli as Sean Dyche looks to strengthen squad ahead of next season.

Everton are now looking to improve their backline, with Jake O’Brien reportedly on the verge of signing for the Merseyside outfit.

That’s according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who claims that the Premier League club have “agreed a deal in principle” with Lyon to sign the 23-year-old.

O’Brien is “ready to accept” the five-year contract Everton have offered, with a medical potentially taking place on Monday.

The Republic of Ireland international was a revelation last season, impressing for the French club after joining from Crystal Palace last summer.

The towering centre-back attracted interest from West Ham United earlier in the summer before the Hammers signed Max Kilman from Wolves.

French media reported earlier this week that Brentford were making an attempt to capture O’Brien, but it does appear that his future lies further north.
