According to L'Équipe, Everton have submitted a €40m offer to Monaco for Folarin Balogun, with talks under way. Lamine Camara is on Chelsea's radar, but he is not at the top of their shortlist.
Everton made contact over the weekend about the American forward, who is available to leave with two years on his deal.
Monaco have yet to deliver a formal response, while both clubs are negotiating a potential transfer. Another European side could also look to position themselves in this deal.
Chelsea spoke with Monaco's sporting leadership last week about Camara, 22, who is under contract until 2029 with the Ligue 1 club.
The London club are prioritising another midfield target to cover the probable departure of Enzo Fernandez to Manchester City. If that pursuit fails, they would firm up their interest in the Senegal international. Other clubs may also contact Monaco late in the window.
