Everton have confirmed that Karen Holmgaard will be out 'for the foreseeable future' after picking up an anterior cruciate ligament injury last week.
The Danish international had to be replaced early into the Toffees' 5-0 FA Cup win away to West Bromwich Albion last Thursday with Clare Wheeler coming on in her place in the fourth minute of the game.
Karen, whose twin sister Sara left Everton for Real Madrid in the summer, will certainly be out for the rest of the season and depending on her recovery time may not be back until 2027.
The news is a blow to Brian Sorensen's team who may dip into the market to find a replacement for the 26-year-old.
Holmgaard has played 61 times for Everton since joining from Turbine Potsdam in 2022, scoring six times and providing four assists.
