Everton defender Leonie Maier has agreed a move to TSG 1899 Hoffenheim when her contract expires in the summer.

Maier’s planned Everton exit was confirmed via a post on the club’s official website this morning. The defender will officially become a TSG 1899 Hoffenheim player on 1 July.

The 30-year-old German international joined Everton in summer 2021 and she has gone on to make 20 appearances for the Merseyside club in the Barclays Women’s Super League, scoring one goal.

Maier has struggled for game time this season, the player’s only starts have come in the FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup. Given Maier’s age, it is important that she is playing regularly and the player could get the game time that she needs next season with TSG 1899 Hoffenheim.

The defender has spent four years playing in England. Prior to her time at Everton, Maier also featured for Arsenal in the Barclays Women’s Super League. The player was a regular for The Gunners in her two seasons in North London.

Maier spent the early days of her career back home in her native Germany in spells with VfL Sindelfingen, SC 07 Bad Neuenahr and Bayern Munich. The defender played FLYERALARM Frauen-Bundesliga football with the latter two clubs.
