Everton eyeing Genoa’s Brooke Norton-Cuffy to solve right-back problem | OneFootball

Everton are reportedly mulling over a move for Genoa defender Brooke Norton-Cuffy, according to The I Paper.

While the Toffees are considering Alistair Johnston and Aaron Wan-Bissaka to sort their right-back conundrum, the Englishman is also on their list of targets.

Everton boss David Moyes will be desperate to land a new right-back following Seamus Coleman’s exit. Nathan Patterson has struggled to stay fit.

The Merseyside club was forced to field Jake O’Brien at right-back last season, but he’d rather line up in his natural centre-half position, forcing them into the transfer market.

The England Under-21 international impressed in Serie A last term, bagging two goals and an assist in 27 appearances, helping to keep two clean sheets along the way.

Norton-Cuffy is a young prospect who can develop into a truly lethal force.

The 22-year-old is used in a very advanced role in Italy, but at Everton, under Moyes, he’d be forced to defend deep, which is also not a problem for him.

However, if the Toffees want him, they’d have to move now as he has reportedly been offered to the big clubs in Italy in the past few days.

Everton will likely not push for Norton-Cuffy because of Moyes

Despite Norton-Cuffy’s obvious potential, Moyes may ultimately decide that a more experienced option is better suited to their immediate needs.

Moyes has built much of his managerial career around trusting seasoned players who understand the demands of English football.

Johnson and Wan-Bissaka would therefore appear more logical choices for the Toffees at this stage.

Both have extensive top-level experience and could be expected to settle into the Premier League quickly.

Norton-Cuffy could develop into an excellent right-back, but Everton need reliability now.

With Moyes in charge, Everton will likely prioritise experience over potential when making this crucial decision.
