Everton are exploring a move for VfL Wolfsburg winger Patrick Wimmer, with Fulham also keen this month, according to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk.
The Toffees are yet to act in January and have been linked with full-backs and forwards, but Wimmer represents a different profile. The Austrian, 24, broke through at Arminia Bielefeld in 2021/22 before joining Wolfsburg, where he has become a regular for club and country.
Primarily a winger, he can operate on either flank, up front or in midfield. Used mostly on the left this season and as a midfielder or supporting striker last year, he is industrious and rapid, reportedly hitting around 21mph, with strong pressing numbers that could suit David Moyes’ direct approach.
End product has varied. He registered seven goals and 14 assists across 2021/22 and 2022/23, but since summer 2023 he has scored at a similar rate while creating roughly half as many, with about 3.8 xG of chances in the league. A knee ligament injury in 2023 may be a factor, although his technique can be erratic, despite a December burst of three goals and two assists in three games.
The report added that Lazio, Bologna and Fiorentina are interested, with four Premier League clubs asking about him, Fulham among them. Wolfsburg are thought unlikely to resist a fair offer, with 18 months left on his deal, and Transfermarkt values him at €15m (£13m). There is no suggestion of advanced talks, so any deal still looks some way off.
