Everton are interested in signing Senegal international wing-back Krepin Diatta, according to Foot Mercato.

The 27-year-old versatile defender is available on a free transfer following the expiry of his contract at Ligue 1 club AS Monaco.

Everton’s recruitment team view the experienced wide man as a cost-effective solution to strengthen their options on the flanks.

However, the Toffees face notable competition, with Ipswich Town, Marseille and Schalke 04 also in the running to sign him.

Diatta spent the summer representing Senegal at international level before turning his attention to resolving his club future.

His representatives are taking a measured approach to evaluating options across England, France and Germany to ensure he selects the ideal destination for regular starts.

Diatta offers valuable versatility, capable of operating as a right wing-back, traditional right midfielder or inverted wide attacker.

During his five-year spell with Monaco and an earlier stint at Club Brugge, he demonstrated technical quality, high-energy pressing and defensive discipline.

With over 60 caps for Senegal, Diatta brings proven top-level experience. Signing a player of his profile on a free transfer would represent shrewd business for Everton.

Their main pitch is offering guaranteed game time and a stable platform in England’s top flight.

With negotiations between interested clubs and the player expected to accelerate in the coming days, Everton hope to persuade Diatta to move to Merseyside.
