Harrison Armstrong is staying at Everton after the club called off his possible transfer to Nottingham Forest amid a backlash from supporters, while Jack Grealish is set to return to the club.

Forest were interested in a £40m move for Armstrong, with the midfielder the subject of chants from Everton fans at their 1-1 draw with Bournemouth.

Evertonians warned there would be a “riot on their hands” if they sold the midfielder.

While manager David Moyes also made it clear he did not want the 19-year-old to leave as he said they could not let their best players leave.

But while Iliman Ndiaye is getting closer to joining Tottenham, Everton are getting closer to making two signings.

Talks are advancing with Manchester City about Grealish while Everton are trying to bring back Richarlison from Tottenham.

Grealish, who spent last season on loan at Hill Dickinson Stadium, has been a target of Everton’s all summer as they looked to do another deal with Manchester City.

The 30-year-old has entered the last year of his contract at the Etihad Stadium and a return to Everton will bring his City career to an end.

Grealish cost City a club record £100m in 2021 and was a regular in the team who won the Treble in 2023, but his fortunes declined in the following two years.

But he was a popular figure while on loan at Everton last season, winning the Premier League’s player-of-the-month award in August before injury ended his season in September.
