Ferguson Still Dreams of Everton Return

Iconic figure with unfinished business

Duncan Ferguson remains one of Everton’s most recognisable figures, both for his impact as a striker and for his fiery presence on the touchline. Speaking on Monday Night Football, the former Goodison Park favourite admitted that his ambition to manage the club has never faded.

“I just want to be on that touchline for Everton. I’ve seen got dreams. But I’ve got to get back into football and management,” Ferguson said, reflecting on his career path since leaving his role at the club.

Missed chance for permanent role

Ferguson has twice taken interim charge of Everton, galvanising players and supporters with his passion. Yet despite credible results during his spell, the opportunity to lead the team permanently slipped away.

“Going with the results that I had, I could have had the chance [to manage Everton permanently]. But Carlo Ancelotti was sacked from Napoli and they brought Carlo in, in the end,” Ferguson explained. “I thought I had a sniff at it, the record was there. But it wasn’t to be in the end.”

For Ferguson, those moments remain bittersweet, a reminder of what might have been at the club where he forged his legacy.

Challenges in management

Since leaving Goodison, Ferguson has taken on difficult roles in the lower leagues, showing his willingness to build a career from the ground up. He acknowledged the obstacles that have tested his resolve.

“I’ve picked two really tough jobs and then lost my last job through administration. So I’ve had a bit of a bad break on that one. Hopefully I will get another chance to get back in. I think I’ve got a lot to offer.”

Everton ties remain strong

For supporters, Ferguson represents more than memories of goals and celebrations. He embodies the fight and loyalty that Evertonians hold dear. His determination to return, even after setbacks, continues to fuel speculation that one day the door at Goodison Park might open again.
