James Tarkowski has signed a new two-year contract with Everton, extending his stay at the club until 2028.
The defender’s previous deal was due to expire next summer, but Everton have moved to secure one of their most reliable performers as part of their wider squad rebuild under manager David Moyes.
Tarkowski joined the Toffees from Burnley in 2022 and has since made 128 appearances across all competitions.
He has been a near ever-present in defence and is now a senior figure in the dressing room, serving as vice-captain behind Seamus Coleman.
The 32-year-old’s leadership and consistency have made him a cornerstone of Moyes’ side.
His durability was underlined by a remarkable run of 111 consecutive Premier League starts before a hamstring injury ended that streak in April.
He is a key part of Everton’s defensive foundation alongside Jordan Pickford and Jarrad Branthwaite.
His aerial dominance, positional awareness and experience have made him one of the Premier League’s most dependable centre-backs.
Everton’s unbeaten start to life at the Hill Dickinson Stadium has fuelled optimism on Merseyside, and Tarkowski believes the team can continue to build momentum under Moyes’ guidance.
The new contract reflects his faith in the club’s long-term direction and ambition to re-establish itself among England’s top clubs.
European qualification remains a clear objective for both player and manager. Tarkowski previously came close during his time at Burnley and is determined to achieve that goal with Everton.
His extension also signals the beginning of Everton’s renewal process, with fresh talks planned with Pickford, James Garner and Vitalii Mykolenko in the coming weeks.
