Everton have completed the signing of Manchester City goalkeeper Katie Startup on an emergency loan deal.

The Toffees announced the news via a post on their official club website this morning.

The 26-year-old stopper moves to Everton to cover for injured first-choice goalkeeper Courtney Brosnan. The Republic of Ireland international has been ruled out of action this weekend. It is not known if the player will be fit to return for the next round of Barclays Women’s Super League matches. The exact period of Startup’s emergency loan has not yet been specified by Everton.

Startup joined Manchester City on a permanent basis last summer off the back of a successful short-term loan spell at The Joie Stadium. The player signed on with The Cityzens until next summer. Startup has largely provided competition and cover in her Manchester City career to date.

Everton named Startup as a substitute for this afternoon’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Brighton & Hove Albion. Emily Ramsey has filled the void left by fellow keeper Brosnan’s absence.

Following this afternoon’s game, Everton have a one-week gap before their next fixture against Leicester City at The King Power Stadium, allowing Brosnan a short period to recover from her injury.
