Manchester City may entertain further transfer interest from Everton in the coming weeks off the back of their deal for Jack Grealish.
The Premier League giants could once again find themselves negotiating with the Goodison Park hierarchy as David Moyes’ side look to strengthen their midfield options ahead of the winter market.
Kalvin Phillips, meanwhile, has endured a frustrating spell since arriving at Manchester City from Leeds in 2022. Despite joining as one of England’s best midfielders, the 28-year-old has struggled to secure regular minutes under Pep Guardiola, falling behind Rodri and other versatile options in the pecking order.
Loan spells at West Ham and Ipswich Town did little to revive his form, and injuries – including Achilles surgery earlier this year – have only added to his difficulties in maintaining momentum.
Pep Guardiola’s recent comments have, however, hinted at a potential lifeline for Phillips at the Etihad. The Catalan coach admitted that he still views the Englishman as part of the first-team squad, with Phillips training fully and featuring in the Carabao Cup’s third round.
That said, the midfielder’s long-term future remains uncertain, especially if opportunities continue to be limited over the coming months.
According to a new report from Football Insider, Everton have an active interest in Manchester City’s Kalvin Phillips going into the upcoming winter transfer window as they assess the market for new central midfielders.
Given Everton’s ongoing attempts to reshape their squad with cost-effective and Premier League-proven additions, a move for Phillips would arguably make sense on several fronts, particularly if David Moyes believes he can revive his form of old.
The Scottish boss is known to favour players with high work rate, physicality, and defensive discipline, all traits Phillips displayed prominently during his Leeds United days under Marcelo Bielsa.
The potential for a short-term loan could appeal to both clubs, especially if Manchester City are reluctant to sanction a permanent departure mid-season with finances at a premium for most potential suitors.
Looking ahead, Kalvin Phillips’ situation could hinge on how much game time he receives between now and January. Should Pep Guardiola keep him on the fringes, a move to Everton could present an ideal opportunity to rebuild confidence.
