Graeme Bailey reports on TBR Football that both Everton and Leeds United are interested in signing former Arsenal and Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. The 32-year-old English player is currently a free agent after his contract with Besiktas was recently terminated.
This is why a return to England looks quite likely. Both Everton and Leeds are looking for opportunities to strengthen their midfield, and Oxlade-Chamberlain could become a less expensive option for them.
The report states that the player is not demanding too much in terms of salary, which could make it relatively easy to deal with him. He has experience at big clubs like Arsenal and Liverpool and can fit into every midfield role. Leeds need an energetic and versatile player, while Everton are currently looking for new depth and creativity.
The Toffees have made some big decisions in the transfer market recently, including a desire to sign Jack Grealish permanently. Likewise, it’s worth remembering that Everton also wanted to bring in Victor Lindelof, but he eventually moved to Aston Villa. Oxlade-Chamberlain’s name coming up seems to fit in with Everton’s plans.

We find this deal a little interesting, as Oxlade-Chamberlain has proven himself whenever he has found fitness. His biggest asset for Everton would be his ability to play in a versatile role. The English midfielder can set the tone in central midfield, while also providing energy on the flanks when needed. He can shoot from a distance and can also speed up the pace of play. For a team like Everton, who sometimes lack creativity, this could prove to be a bonus.
However, there is a big question mark here, and that is his injury history. Oxlade-Chamberlain’s career has been affected by several serious injuries, which do not guarantee that he will play regularly. In a competition as fiercely competitive as the Premier League, this risk could prove to be too great.
However, if Everton use him as a squad player and do not put too much pressure on him, then this deal will definitely give them short-term strength. His experience will also benefit the dressing room, and the younger players will get a chance to learn. Everton’s financial fair play situation will depend on how practical they consider this move, but this experiment can both harm and benefit Everton.
