Everton Women’s Danish international Nicoline Sørensen to retire | OneFootball

Everton have confirmed that Denmark international Nicoline Sørensen intends to retire from professional football by the end of 2023.

She joined the Blues from Brondby in July 2020 but has decided to pursue other interests and will leave the club next month.

Alan McTavish, CEO of Everton Women, said: “Nicoline has been a key part of our squad over the past three years and signed a new one-year deal in the summer.

“However, she recently informed us of her plans to retire from professional football and, after careful consideration, we have reluctantly taken the decision to release her from her contract.

“She will remain part of the Women’s Senior Team squad until our game with Manchester City on 17 December.

“Whatever Nicoline’s next steps are, on behalf of everyone at Everton, I would like to wish her all the very best for the future.”

After joining Everton from Brondby, Sørensen made an immediate impact, featuring in all 22 of the Club’s WSL matches in 2020/21.

She also played a pivotal role as the Blues reached the 2020 Women’s FA Cup final, with one of the four goals she scored during her debut season coming in the Toffees’ semi-final victory over Birmingham City.

In September 2021 the 26-year-old Dane suffered a serious injury during a 3-1 win over Birmingham City and was ruled out for the remainder of the campaign.

However, after an extensive period of rehabilitation, Sørensen returned to competitive football against Arsenal in December 2022 and flourished during the second half of last season, contributing a number of important goals and assists as the Blues claimed a top six finish.

The Everton forward, who won two league championships in her homeland, also represented Denmark at the 2017 European Championship in Holland and the 2023 World Cup in Australia.
