FLW takes a look at who is set to have the most valuable squad in League One in the upcoming campaign

The 2025/26 League One campaign is gearing up to be one of the most competitive ones seen in the third tier in quite some time.

Year upon year, the quality of players increases in the third tier, and that leads to some League One squads being worth quite a fair bit of money. But who has the most expensive squad?

July 1 marks the official start of the new football calendar, with contracts expiring and loan players heading back to their parent clubs. Effectively, this point represents each squad being stripped back to its core before each team retools.

But right now, whose squad has the highest value? Football League World has taken a look at Transfermarkt's market value to find out.

24 ? ? Bromley - £3.6 million

Bromley's journey from never playing in the EFL a mere four years ago to now being in League One is quite remarkable, but that does come with the caveat that their squad value is the lowest in the division by some distance.

Andy Woodman's side still houses a lot of players who were with them back in their National League days, and even those who they have brought in who do have that League One experience, such as Victor Adeboyejo and Kamil Conteh, don't stop them from landing at the foot of the list.

Burton Albion are in a position at the start of August where their squad is very slim, and a lot of those who have left made up what was quite a decent team in terms of their market value.

Captain Udoka Godwin-Malife, Alex Hartridge and talisman Jake Beesley are all massive misses, both on the field and on this list.

Charlie Webster is doing a lot of the heavy lifting now, as the €900,000-rated midfielder counts for 20% of the entire squad's value. It's safe to say that Gary Bowyer will not want to lose him between now and the end of the summer window.

Cambridge United continue to fill out the relegation, with their squad value being identical to the end of last season.

Gassan Ahadme does a lot of the heavy lifting after he joined on loan from Charlton Athletic, but Everton youngster Isaac Heath also comes in as one of the higher-valued players in Neil Harris' squad, too.

AFC Wimbledon round out the relegation places on this list, but they have put themselves in a solid position to build on last season. Johnnie Jackson's side didn't lose too many key assets, and ensured that one stayed on after Zack Nelson arrived permanently.

The 21-year-old former Luton Town man immediately comes in as the Dons' most valuable player, too, per their squad on Transfermarkt, a whole €150,000 ahead of Isaac Ogundere and Alistair Smith, two key men at Plough Lane last year.

A lot of people are tipping Johnnie Jackson's side to struggle once again, due to their lack of a lucrative budget that a lot of their peers have, and it'll definitely be amongst the lowest in the division.

Mansfield Town are being tipped as early outsiders to break into the play-offs next season, but they rank rather lowly on this list so far this summer.

This is mainly because their squad excels in experience, and therefore lacks when it comes to potential sell-on value. David McGoldrick is regarded as one of the early signings of the summer in League One, but when the 38-year-old is only rated at €25,000 due to his age, it isn't going to reflect on this list.

Elsewhere, Jon Russell, as mentioned, is ranked highly; as is Tyler Roberts, who is looking to put his injury woes behind him and showcase why he's been on the books at the likes of Leeds United and Birmingham City this season and cost those sides decent money, too.

League Two play-off winners Notts County find themselves out of the bottom four heading into the new campaign with a squad that has grown in value from the end of last season.

This is mainly due to the loan arrival of Ollie Cooper from Swansea City, who is valued at €1.5 million, but Jodi Jones and fellow new arrival Max Sanders help prop up the overall squad value at Meadow Lane.

All will be valuable assets if Martin Paterson's side are to survive their first League One campaign back after 11 years away.

Peterborough United come in near the bottom, and allowing Archie Collins, who is rated at €800,000, to leave on a free transfer is one of the main reasons why.

The 26-year-old was the second-most valuable player at London Road, behind Harry Leonard, who has a valuation of €1.5 million - the most seen thus far. You get the feeling he definitely won't be the last on this list worth that much.

Thomas O'Connor's arrival from Wrexham helps bolster the overall value, but otherwise, it's not a very valuable squad at Peterborough.

Doncaster Rovers' squad value is very similar to what it was at the end of last season, despite several players departing the Eco Power Stadium in the interim.

That's mainly due to the loan arrival of Tommy Simkin, who Transfermarkt values at a healthy €1 million, due to his age and his position as one of the backup keepers in the England Under-21s side over the past year.

There aren't many others who come close, but Owen Bailey, Grant McCann's best player, threatens that seven-figure fee. Donny will likely want to add more between now and September to increase their standing on this list and better their first season back in League One this year.

Last season's beaten play-off semi-finalists, Bradford City, also sit in the bottom half of the squad value list in League One this off-season. The Bantams were in League Two just 15 months ago, so they're still in the process of climbing up this table.

They've been busy in the window already, with the likes of Adam Phillips, Callum Connolly and goalkeeper Jon McCracken joining the ranks, all valued over €500,000 per Transfermarkt.

And, despite losing highly-rated youngster Jenson Metcalfe, the Bantams currently still have Josh Neufville and Bobby Pointon in their ranks, which helps bolster this overall number, and keeping them will be vital in shooting them into the top half come the end of the window.

Despite having two players valued at seven figures or higher, Filip Marschall and Chem Campbell, last season's play-off semi-finalists Stevenage sit in the bottom half of the overall squad ranking.

Losing Harvey White to divisional rivals Plymouth Argyle hasn't helped their case, but it's well known that Alex Revell's side are amongst the bottom of League One when it comes to overall budget.

It's not expected that the Boro will be able to add more players worth around €1 million this summer, despite last season's heroics, so they'll be expected to be in the bottom half come the end of the window.
