The debate as to which Lancashire football club is the biggest has been decided by AI, but which club came out on top, and which is the smallest?
The debate as to which Lancashire-based team is the biggest, and which is the smallest is likely to ramble on for a considerable amount of time.
Of course, each set of fans for each team will have their own views with personal bias involved, but there are many factors to consider when it comes to finding out which team is the biggest in Lancashire.
Fanbase size, history, current form and results are just some of what you should take into account, and in this article at Football League World, we've let AI decide which team is the biggest and smallest in the Lancashire area.

Blackburn Rovers are in at number one for being named as the biggest Lancashire-based football club by AI. Rovers have a hugely impressive history, and their supporters will be delighted to hear they're top of the list.
ChatGPT highlighted Blackburn's long top-flight history, whilst also mentioning that they have the 'biggest overall stature in the county', which is something they'll be keen to hang on to against the likes of Burnley and Preston North End.
The AI tool also covers the fact that Blackburn are a founding member of the Football League, and that they were historically one of England's biggest football clubs pre-WW1.
Blackburn were crowned Premier League champions in the 1994/95 season, in what was a memorable campaign for everyone associated with the club. Alan Shearer was at the heart of that title-winning success, as the former England international netted 37 goals, and was on hand to provide 15 assists in all competitions for Rovers in that particular season.
They're currently playing in the Championship, and the Ewood Park faithful will be eager to see them return to the glory days in the Premier League at the earliest of opportunities. ChatGPT mentioned that the reasons as to why they've beaten the likes of Burnley to top spot as Lancashire's biggest club is down to their famous Premier League title win, and broader historical prestige.

In at number two, we've got Premier League side, Burnley. It might be slightly surprising to see a top-flight side behind a Championship side, but history has seemingly been taken into account by AI on this one.
In the last five years in particular, Burnley have been going up and down between the Championship and the Premier League, and it seems as though they're set to continue that trend this season under the management of Scott Parker in the top-flight.
ChatGPT highlights that Burnley have a strong modern Premier League presence, with very large local support, which is something that plenty of their supporters will agree with.
Turf Moor's identity is labelled as 'iconic', and AI also mentions that Burnley are the 'most relevant Lancashire club in the 2010s and 2020s, which is spot on when comparing the success between them and the likes of Blackburn and Preston.
However, Burnley's supporters will certainly argue the point that they should be in top spot ahead of Blackburn, especially considering Burnley are unbeaten in their last 11 matches against Blackburn Rovers in all competitions, with Rovers' last win over their local rivals being back in 2010.

Preston North End can feel slightly hard done by for coming third on this list by AI, but recent history has seemingly been taken into account.
ChatGPT mentioned that they were, of course, a Founding Football League club, whilst labelling the “Invincibles” legacy as 'still huge historically'.
The Lancashire-based side haven't played in the top-flight of English football since the 1960/61 season, and the club's supporters will be hoping that they can return to the Premier League at some stage.
Preston have a hugely impressive list of honours, which includes winning the First Division twice back in the 1888/89 and 1889/90 seasons, as well as winning the FA Cup twice in their history, with the most recent success coming in the 1937/38 season.
ChatGPT highlighted Preston as having 'massive historical importance in English football', as well as still being 'well-supported', which is something that the Deepdale faithful will agree with.
The reasoning as to why they aren't higher up the list is down to the fact they've been based in the Championship for the majority of their time in the modern era.

The majority of Blackpool fans are likely to agree that it's a fair assumption by AI to put them as the fourth-biggest club in the Lancashire area.
The Tangerines have shown glimpses of their quality over the years, with their most notable achievement being winning promotion into the Premier League in the 2009/10 season.
Their stay in the top-flight was brief though, and various off-field problems have hampered any progress that the club were looking to make in recent years.
ChatGPT touched upon Blackpool's famous FA Cup win in the 1952/53 season, whilst also mentioning their 'decent fanbase', whose patience has certainly been tested recently.
Blackpool are currently in League One, but are finding it tough to force themselves out of the relegation zone, in what would be a disastrous relegation for a club that had previously had so much positivity around it.
ChatGPT also mentioned that the reason as to why they're behind the likes of Blackburn Rovers, Burnley, and Preston North End is down to their lack of league success and consistency, which is a fair point given the current status of the Tangerines.

Accrington Stanley are in at number five for the biggest clubs in Lancashire, which isn't too surprising considering the quality and history of the teams above them in this list.
They've not played their football higher than League One in the football pyramid, with their most recent spell in the third tier being in the 2022/23 season, where they were relegated after a disappointing campaign.
ChatGPT highlighted the club's 'solid modern presence', and it'll be interesting to see whether Accrington Stanley can fire themselves back up into League One in future years, as there's a strong base to build on at the club.
What was also mentioned by AI was that they have a more historic identity and recognition in English football than a fellow Lancashire-based club that have finished bottom of this list.

Fleetwood Town are ranked as the smallest Lancashire-based club in the EFL by ChatGPT, which isn't too eye-opening, as them and Accrington Stanley both play their football in the fourth tier of English football.
Fleetwood will find it tough to challenge for a top-seven finish in League Two this season, and so it looks as though they'll be preparing for another year at the bottom of the EFL pyramid next term.
ChatGPT highlighted the club's 'rapid modern rise through the pyramid', as to why they're ranked higher than non-league clubs, which is something that plenty of fans will agree with.
Fleetwood were previously playing in the ninth tier of English football in the 1998/99 season, and have flown up the football pyramid in the last few years. They even reached League One not so long ago, and will be targeting a return to the third tier at the earliest possible opportunity.
