West Ham United head coach Rita Guarino says that every point is crucial in the position that the club find themselves in.

The Hammers are just a point off the bottom of the Barclays Women’s Super League table with 10 games left to play.

West Ham United travel to Leicester City this weekend with the opportunity to close the gap between themselves and The Foxes to one point. When speaking to the media in the pre-match press conference, Hammers boss Guarino said that the focus is on winning, although the value of each and every point cannot be played down.

“We always go onto the pitch to win but every point in this moment is so important,” Guarino said. “Of course, we go out onto the pitch to win.”

Commenting on the aims for her side this weekend, Guarino said that the focus is on continuous improvement.

She said “Every game is important for getting points. We are focused on what we need to do to improve and show our best [performance] on the field. It’s important that we continue moving in this direction.

“Leicester are a solid team that are very organised in defence but so are we. We have prepared well for this game.”

Guarino collected her first win last weekend as West Ham United defeated Newcastle United 3-0 in the fourth round of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup. The Italian said that the victory handed her side a timely confidence boost.

She said “It was a very important win, especially after scoring three goals. It was a game where we improved a lot but we have also improved in training. Every game is important for us to learn what we need to do better.”

West Ham United’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Leicester City kicks-off at 11.55am on Sunday.
