It's hard to single out an individual player after such a sensational team performance. But the Bundesliga asked fans to pick their Man of the Match after our 6-0 victory, and Assan Ouedraogo (27 percent) narrowly edged out Yan Diomande (26 percent) in the voting.
In an interview straight after the game, Ouedraogo took his opportunity to applaud the team's performance. "Everyone works hard for everyone, and winning games is obviously great. We're in great shape at the moment, and we're functioning as a team unit."
Assan scored one and provided an assist in RBL's victory on the road, which extended our unbeaten run against FCA to 16 matches (ten wins, six draws).
His second goal of the season made it 5-0 to the Red Bulls. The 19-year-old later talked us through that moment. "It was nice play from all of us, including Raumi and Baumi. Good one-touch football. And my finish wasn't too bad either."
This also pleased his coach, who was full of praise for the team after the game. "I am completely satisfied. No game is perfect, and that applies here too. But today's came close," said Ole Werner following the win at the WWK-Arena.
After the final whistle, our midfield hero went over to the more than 1,100 travelling supporters and threw his shirt into the crowd. Notably, Assan made sure to close his eyes. "I didn't want to single anyone out. We were all delighted with the win, and that can't be taken for granted. That's why I gave my shirt away. Everyone played their part – the players, the staff, the fans. We can all be proud of ourselves today."
However, nobody at the club is getting carried away despite a run of seven Bundesliga games unbeaten. Assan is already focused on the next challenge. On Tuesday (20:45 CET), the Red Bulls travel to face third-tier side Energie Cottbus in the DFB-Pokal. "It'll be another difficult game and we need to be extremely focused. That's why we have to make sure we recover well now. It won't be a walkover. It'll be a hard-fought match."
