Newcastle United have been considering leaving St James’ Park and building an entirely new stadium.

The venue has been the Magpies’ home since 1892, with the last renovation happening in 2000.

It is the seventh-largest stadium in the Premier League, with a seating capacity of over 52,000,

However, Newcastle’s ambitious owners are exploring options to expand the current venue or move to an entirely different ground.

According to the Daily Mail’s Craig Hope, a new stadium in Leazes Park is the most likely as it is the preferred option with many people inside the club, especially after positive talks with the city’s freemen.

The journalist ran a social media poll asking what option supporters preferred. The result was 60-40 in favour of moving, providing the location was next door at Leazes Park.

Moving from St James’ Park is a topic that continues to divide opinion within the fanbase.

Newcastle look to be going in the right direction under the Saudi Arabian ownership.

They finished eighth in the Premier League last term, but they have high hopes of securing a European finish this season.

The Magpies made a slow start to the season, but they have hit a good run of form now, beating Chelsea, Arsenal and Nottingham Forest in their previous three matches.
