It may not beĀ De Klassieker, but theĀ Noord-Hollandse Derby remains one of the fixtures of the calendar year for many Ajax faithful the world over.
Ahead of De Godenzonen's away day atĀ AFAS Stadion against regional rivals AZ Alkmaar, a look back at an absolute stunner from former club starlet and Swedish legend Zlatan IbrahimoviÄ may be what the doctor ordered.
During the 2003/04 Eredivisie season, the mercurial son of Malmö was just getting warmed up in the Dutch top flight after a breakout 2002/03 campaign, and his genius would be on full display against De Kaasboeren in the return fixture en route to league honours.
On an afternoon away from home, in a side managed by Ronald Koeman that featured iconic names the likes of Wesley Sneijder, Rafael van der Vaart, Steven Pienaar, and John Heitinga, Zlatan opened the scoring with an acrobatic effort; the type that would go on to define his career at the highest level.
As the current Ajax side sit fourth in the table and a staggering 18 points off runaway leaders PSV, maybe, just maybe, one of the current crop can produce a moment of magic that the fans, and Zlatan, would be proud of.
